I have been duly fascinated, if not obsessed with the Budwig Protocol for a number of years now. I suppose my first trial experience with it was well over 10 years ago. I love cottage cheese and found the thought of eating it medicinally with flax oil added,  interesting and compelling. I tried it back then out of curiosity while having no physical problems, found it palatable, but soon quit any further self-supplementation of it until I was given a greyhound that developed osteosarcoma. I immediately thought of it as a possible cancer treatment for her. Her story is a long one and I won't go further into it here, but if interested, you can go to a webpage devoted to her treatment and my experiences with it and her. I will only say that I was literally floored how cottage cheese and flax oil seemed to bring her back to life after I thought I would be putting her down in hours! That made me a convert for sure! My dog taught me a lot during that time which I think allowed me to keep myself in better health. I owe her a lot! Lastly, the Budwig protocol came through again for me in a rather unexpected way. I had been plagued with a worsening eye condition for the last 5 or so years that would come and go, until it pretty much didn't. I was planning on going to a Ophthalmologist this summer until unexpectedly, my vision vastly improved while I was on Budwig, but I had added a second seed oil to my flax oil and cottage cheese formula of cold-pressed, unrefined sunflower oil! I was not remotely expecting that to happen and certainly reinforced by view that I was on the right track. What this all means is that the common knowledge out there on the Budwig Protocol is not quite as accurate as many of its followers may believe. There are really only three books out there that are said to be the English translations of Dr. Johanna Budwig. They are:

1)  Flax Oil as a True Aid Against Arthritis, Heart Infarction, Cancer, and Other Diseases (German/French copyrights 1959,1966,1972 and the English edition 1992, 1994) by Dr. Johanna Budwig

I have read and reread the three English translations that I mentioned above which leaves a lot to be desired in fully understanding the Budwig Protocol to my way of thinking. It finally occurred to me that I could translate her German texts on my own using the newest software translation services! I could go through, line by line the German texts which I have and perhaps come away with how Johanna Budwig really felt about a few conundrums that have plagued me ever since I started studying her work!

Conundrum #1
:  Antioxidants are labeled as respiratory poisons and anti-PUFA by Dr. Budwig. My view is this is impossible as they do not steal electrons as Dr. Budwig alledges, but are always electron donators.

Conundrum #2
:  Why did Dr. Budwig settle on Flax oil being the best balance of the Omega 6 linoleic Acid versus the Omega 3 Linolenic acid?   This is the conundrum that has plagued me for years when reading her few English translations.  She seems to have favored the omega-6 Linoleic acid (LA) fatty acid over Linolenic acid (ALA) in many of her written statements, yet she chose Flax oil as the preferred therapeutic oil to use with the proper balance of the Omega-3 vs 6, if her English translations are correct.

Conundrum #3
:  Every where, all her disciples claim that low fat cottage cheese or quark are the only proper protein that should be used with flax oil. I find this suspect as the low fat craze only came into the the American marketing lexicon in the 1980s. I find it really hard to believe that Dr. Budwig coming out of a post-war starving Germany was really too worried about eating too much of the natural fat found in quark back in those days. Yes, she knew many industrial fats were bad and was the basis for her new theory, but the natural fat found in quark or cottage cheese probably was not her concern. I suspect it was added by later proponents of her theory when people were better fed and fat of all kinds were being linked to cancer.

Der Tod des Tumors
(The Death of the Tumor, vol. 1)
1977

My first translation review will be her German text, Der Tod des Tumors   (The Death of the Tumor, vol. 1) as pictured in the top photo. It is a 118 page book. Volume 1 goes from The Recognition chapter on page 16, The Inventive Activity on page 24, The Oppression under abuse of authority on page 95, on to Literature Specification and The author's books ending on page 118.  Volume 1 is a rather dry text that can easily be overlooked as not too important in healing people with the Budwig Protocol. However, it does lay out Dr. Budwig's attempt to patent her methods and formulas, and, thus, is some what enlightening of her thoughts. In her chapter on The Inventive Activity, she writes on page 42-43:

II   Realization of inventions in the technical field
:

The main focus of my 8 inventions, mentioned in the notice of recognition, concerns the mastery of the technique for preserving these fatty acids in such a way that these valuable electron systems are able to function properly." These eight inventions according to the Wertvoll certificate of Feb18, 1971 and July 2, 1971 which until the application for recognition of the Inventors' Ordinance of 1969 as patentable inventions include:

1. The electron systems consisting of highly unsaturated oils:

a)   First sunflower oil, poppy seed oil, linseed oil, avocado oil, etc.
b)   Various long-chain oils, representatives of fish oils and fish products are included.

2. The choice of substances for preservation of these electron systems based on the following partners:

a) Representatives from the protein area (also oats, buckwheat, onion). Also, Peru balsam among other things as plant secretions as representatives of the sulfhydryl groups
b) Representatives of the natural sugar or honey compounds (OH groups).
c) Certain acids were also included in the patent application.

3.  Finely distributed natural lipoproteins (fat protein complexes) made durable by simply controlling the electrical potential are also included for the combination of highly unsaturated fats (see No. 1) with protein substances, sugar compounds or biological acids (see No. 2). The different procedures mentioned under 1 to 3 take place gradually.  The processes proved to be useful for the manufacture and preservation of  high quality food and external use oils.

Her further summarizing conclusion
(p. 85-86):

Throughout the years, from 1953 until my application for recognition of the economic value of my inventions in 1969,
the 8 procedures set out in the letter of recognition dated Feb 18. 1971 and in the of the confirmation of July 2, 1971 recognized as economically valuable are the inventions contained in this notice of recognition includes the dipolar systems:

- On the one hand, highly unsaturated fats rich in electrons and fatty acids as electron donors and as sources of the negatively charged electrons made up of the quanta of solar energy associated with the magnetic fields of the photons of the sun.  These include i.e: Linseed oil, sunflower oil, poppy seed oil, soya oil, maize oil, maize germ oil,
Wheat germ oil, rice oil, safflower oil, avogado oil and others; also added are Fish oils from cod liver oil, caviar, lobsters, Langoustines, prawns, salmon, etc. plus their fatty acids and their soaps.  I call this group of my inventions:  Elements F  [(F1-15 (approx. numbers) + F16-45]. As elements, F 45 provide for representatives with excess negative Cargo.

- On the side of the positively charged electron acceptors, the Proton donors, I call proteins with sulfhydryl groups, i.e. glutathione, onion, buckwheat, oat flakes, garlic, paprika and many more types of pepper, black, red, white pepper, also green pepper Pepper, and secretions such as Peru balsam and bile, etc. I summarize rounded elements P as P1-10.

In the above mentioned patent applications there is also included as a positive antithesis for the purpose of protecting the electron systems by way of association with the hydroxyl groups etc., plus  lactic acid, citric acid, various sugars with active OH groups. I call this group of my inventions Elements P (P11-15). As elements P about 15 representatives with positive charge provide for it, sufficient to protect the electron systems. For the realization of these inventions still much remains to be done in the scope of my work as an inventor in this field. This is valid even with the objection that for example, P1 and P10 are not grouped together. Please bear this in mind: These are natural products as well as carriers of the electron-systems that vary from linseed oil to sunflower oil to avogado oil as well as a carrier of the positively charged protein carriers (elements P) or hydroxyl carrier. Quantities and qualities change and requires a lot of development work before realization of the manifold inventions in this two-step procedure according to of my inventions.

One interesting passage in Volume 1, page 46 states:
". . . the application of the high intensity laser irradiation with monochromatic light when applied to the irradiated area of the seriously ill cancer patients, proves to lack the ability to absorb that laser light (see Goldman, USA); however,  by controlled switching on by use of the Eldi oils, adjusted in the absorption spectrum by the correct selection and correct production of Eldi oils according to invention.  The enormous perspectives that arise here are really justified. and proven."  On page 64 describing her Eldi oils as made from flax oil and wheat germ oil.

My Analysis of her above Volume 1 text:

First and foremost, it is quite obvious that Flax oil is not the only oil valued by Dr. Budwig even though it may have been her oil of therapeutic choice in that era of early pioneering fat science! As seen in Volume 1, she includes in her patent application high linoleic seed oils such as  sunflower oil, poppy seed oil, soy oil, corn oil, maize germ oil, wheat germ oil, rice oil, safflower oil, avocado oil as viable electron systems on the par with Flax oil! Previously on page 39 of that text, she writes: "The highly unsaturated fatty acid (cis-linoleic acid) is the decisive factor which according to Warburg in tumor patients, is so desirable with an expected effect of respiratory excitation.  It turned out that this second pairing was in the autoxydable system of the cell together with the protein representative of the sulfhydryl group (e.g. glutathione) has a fundamental function in the bridging between fat and protein (lipo-proteins)."   In fact, she cites the importance of Linoleic acid over and over again in all of her works and English translations, yet, she chose an oil, Flax oil which is not particularly high in Linoleic acid as her therapeutic oil of choice. Why?  Flax (linseed) oil really is the only oil that has a some what balanced amount of both Omega-6 Linoleic acid and Omega-3 Linolenic acid in one oil type! All of the others, tip way toward the Omega-6 Linoleic acid levels by huge margins with very little of the Omega-3 Linolenic acid present!

So, if one was to place one's self in the 1950's lab coat of Dr. Budwig and only choose one oil, then Flax oil would seem the logical balanced seed oil that contains the most Linoleic plus Linolenic acid levels of all of the others! It is a natural choice for her in a time when the ratio of both the Omega-6 and Omega-3s were not well appreciated. She knew that both were synergistic for certain, but that was about it in the knowledge banks at that time. It was not known until rather recently that linoleic acid is the prime component of cardiolipin that is found in the inner membrane of the powerhouses of our cells, the mitochondria. Linoleic fatty acid is also the major PUFA found in all of our body tissues. Had she appreciated the importance of Linoleic acid over Linolenic acid, she would probably have added on a regular basis, a high linoleic acid seed oil to her beloved flax oil to increase the Omega-6 levels in her oil/protein + quark supplement.

Also, before I leave Volume 1, no where in its text did Dr. Budwig suggest that only a low fat lipoprotein quark complex should be used, nor were antioxidants discussed as respiratory poisons. I did find most interesting and contradictory in her patent application which does not mention quark or any diary products--but list these examples of sulfhydryl group foods which could be mixed with her oils:
" . . . the Proton donors, I call proteins with sulfhydryl groups, i.e. glutathione, onion, buckwheat, oat flakes, garlic, paprika and many more types of pepper. . ." ! Leading that list is gluathione, a very powerful antioxidant, thiol compound that does contain a sulfhydryl group just like quark does! This makes me believe even further that Dr. Budwig does not have her antioxidant theory down properly!

Der Tod des Tumors
(The Death of the Tumor, vol. 2)
1977

The death of the Tumor, Volume II, The Documentation is a 323 page book which starts as Chapter A  Reports from Patients, Chapter B From the scientific basics,  and concludes with Chapter C  Time critical, human or anti-human. With all due respect to the good professor, Dr. Budwig, she is a rather poor author and much of her prose tends to be redundant and not the easiest to understand. In all of my English translation notes below, I have scanned her texts for the most pertinent ideas and include them as a synopsis to the whole text  as an characterization of its content. I was particularly alert to include any subject matter which may relate to my previous three topics of consternation to see if I can come up with a different flavor that presently exists in her English published presented works.

Chapter A
    (Reports from Patients):

This first long chapter extends from page 11 to 122.   Dr. Budwig apparently liked to have her patients write her letters of how they were doing after she lost personal contact with them. The number of successful "cures" are quite impressive with many of these from seemingly hopeless cases! It is a bit suspicious that no failures of her protocol are discussed and we do know they existed because of her warnings of what not to do in other works. Nevertheless, it is interesting to read these first hand accounts of successful cases. Mostly, it appears she prescribed the traditional flax oil in quark supplement to the vast majority of these patients with the below exception which I find really interesting as I am a proponent of adding a high linoleic seed oil to Budwig's flax and quark formula to give an added Linoleic acid content. The below case seems to suggest that Dr. Budwig did indeed prescribe at least on some occasions a high Linoleic seed oil to her regular Flax oil formula! In this case, cold-pressed Sunflower oil:

On page 114-115, a patient Mrs. H.W. writes of her experiences with the Budwig's oil/protein supplement
: "In the summer of 1957, I had on my right breast, a small knot with leakage of liquid.  In the autumn of 1957, I went to see a doctor who treated me with injections. However, there was no improvement.  On the contrary, the knot became bigger and bigger and in consequence, an open wound. In the summer of 1958, the knot was already so large, I had increasing pain. I also lost weight and experienced languor. The liquid flowing out of the wart resulted in a strong crust formation. Because of this serious condition, I went looking for a doctor, who wanted to immediately admit me to the Cantonal hospital for surgery. Neither my husband, nor I could decide."     Now the patient describes in detail what she did next. She also visited biological clinics.  "But there was no cure, it continued to flow. In June 1959, I became a patient with Dr. Budwig and discussed with her about my case. She advised me to immediately switch to the oil-protein diet in especially linseed (flax) oil, sunflower oil, both cold-pressed in quark. In a month of this cure diet and oil/protein supplement, the flowing from the wart stopped. After about six more months,  thanks to  Dr. Budwig's therapy, I gained about 10 pounds of weight, too. The wound healed and the crust dissolved.  Now there is beautiful skin. I would like to mention that I strictly adhered to Dr. Budwig's dietary rules imposed on me, linseed (flax) oil, Diäsan, "Switzerland's" cold-pressed sunflower oil;  I feel very well again, I am fully able to work, the knot at the Chest has receded to a small flat hardening."

Chapter B   (From the scientific basics):

Page 124: I find this text interesting in that she writes that the sulfhydryl protein complex found in quark also protects the fatty acid until it is accessed by oxygen.
"In the äftestrom, the fats are deposited at the protein in water-soluble form. This form of water-soluble fats contains the the most important type of fat which is an electrical antithesis to the protein. These so-called electron clouds contain concentrated energy that is used to its full extent and within a short period of time. This electron cloud is protected by the protein compounds until accessed by oxygen allowing exposure to sunlight, muscle movement or heart action or by all of these factors mentioned together.   This working capital is used for fat. with every breath, with every cell renewal, this working fat must be in liquid form! But there are situations which place special demands on this capital reserve, such as during pregnancy. During growth processes, the need for this fat is huge. The type of fat required is that which can be mixed with protein association compounds (accumulation). These are only the electrically active greases. The entire cell, muscle, brain, nerve tissue, the internal organs flow in the young organism require especially these electrically charged highly active fats. They are called also highly unsaturated.  They eagerly hunt and absorb protein or oxygen. The oxygen shortage of many people is caused by poverty at the oxygen-essential fatty acid level. In a wonderful interplay with the heart action, this fat is immediately active in the organism's venous blood  before entering the heart.  A good dose of these fats are secreted out of the lymph stream into the venous system. This venous blood recharged with fat is now directed to the lungs through the left ventricle into the arteries. This pumping action of the heart is also dependent on the the aforementioned heart action electrical currents. Industrial treated fats removes these electron clouds and do not absorb the oxygen is not only an obstacle to breathing. They will soon be are excreted and stored as solid foreign fat balls on the heart muscle off. The image of a heart attack clearly shows this fat. Also in the arteries, these worthless, electrically indifferent Separated fats. You don't give any water-soluble products with protein. They block the circulation, the cardiac action, the flow of prisoners into blood and lymphatic ducts. Bio-electricity is weakened in the above-mentioned areas."

Page 155: On this page, here is another example of Dr. Budwig specifically favoring the Omega-6, Linoleic acid over Linolenic acid in seeming importance. "Breathing is combustion where two factors are necessary, oxygen and the oxygen acceptor which is the energy supplier. In the organism, this process takes place in the Redox system in the interplay between protein and fat metabolism, between the sulfhydryl group and the easily oxidizable, easily activatable energy-charged linoleic acid in linseed oil."

Page 160: This passage suggests that there may be many other foods one can use to incorporate with the seed oils than just quark or cottage cheese!  Again, she specifically only mentions Linoleic acid here with her flax oil's major PUFA, Linolenic acid  going unmentioned.  "The skeleton of this new oil-protein food consists of:    a)  Protein in which sulphurous amino acids are present as found in quark and other cheeses, also in leeky vegetables, in leek, chives, onions and garlic.  b) Fett, which is rich in the essential fatty acid linoleic acid. This is the case in linseed oil, sunflower oil, corn oil, poppy seed oil, Soybean oil, walnut oil. (Not in peanut oil, on the other hand!!!) Linseed oil is used for especially recommended because of the linolenic acid it contains, its function is essential for the brain and nerves."

Page 161: I find this section interesting in that she specifically mentions gram weights in dosage, plus the addition of milk for her oil/protein formula. The English translations only has her dosages in tablespoons, simplified to one tablespoon of oil to two of quark/cottage cheese; plus milk is never really mentioned as also being combined. Personally, I find that the addition of milk to thin the formula is more palatable. "The correct preparation of the quark linseed oil mixture is dependent on and is of decisive importance for the success of this type of food. For one person, about 100 grams of quark are possible, plus 40 grams of linseed oil and 25 grams of milk. These proportions are stirred well, so that oil is no longer visible. This is achieved most quickly and effortlessly in one device like the Starmix or, also, cream rackets with hand controls are suitable. The combination of quark with linseed oil has a regulating effect in any case on digestion, both diarrhea and constipation. "

Page 182-183: Here again in this passage we find Budwig singling out the Omega-6, Linoleic acid (LA) as the "decisive factor", yet her flax oil has only 16% of LA in it!   "In fact, the absence of a fatty acid is the decisive raw material in the tumor formation resulting in reduced respiration of the living organism. Here I set the linoleic acid as a decisive factor in the linseed oil fatty acids. It easily absorbs the oxygen. If you only add 0.01 y, that's a hundredth of a thousandth of a mg, 1 γ as a unit of measurement = 1/1000000 g = 1 microgram of this fatty acid when added to the blood cancer patient, so quickly erases the hypoxic characteristics that is present in cancer. If one gives this vital fat together with protein as food, the blood of these patients changes within four to six hours with internal breathing gets better."

Page 198-199: Dr. Budwig was quite infatuated with laser therapy as an adjunct to her therapy! If you study the current literature on the subject, you will find that the general consensus of Low level laser therapy (LLLT) in treating cancer is not favorable in that it has been found to often cause cancer cell proliferation as well as activating precancerous cells or increase existing cancerous tissue.  However, you can bet that these studies were not in conjunction with application of her Eldi oils which may be the deciding factor on a superficial tumor being successfully treated and not with a red laser.  "According to existing basic laws of theoretical physics, according to the Schrödinger- equation or other basic rules of theoretical physics--it is considered to be determined that for the absorption of red light in the range of 6900 Å,  the triple unsaturated carbon compound in the sense of the tri-eneene is the iso-energetic point. Fatty acids with the triple unsaturated systems, characterized by the electron arrangements of the π-π electron configurations would have to be used as a biological absorption receiving station for red light.  I have been aware of the π-π electron configuration significance for the intact respiratory system function in the cancer patient for many years. I proved in 1952, their functional ability to form lipoproteins in synergism with the dehydrogenotransportase, the sulfhydryl group in forming the hydrogen bridge. Linus Pauling now states that the hydrogen bridge between fat and protein is the only one in the organism that can be in the biological process resulting in fast and directed transport of the of the electrons.   Resonance phenomena in the area of the hydrogen bridge between linolenic acids and the sulfhydryl groups of the proteins guide the photons as a biological reaction of the light in electron transport. As photo element for recording, storage, biological utilization of the solar energy in the range of frequency at 6900 Å is the highly unsaturated, electron-rich fatty acid recognized as essential for life and of elementarily importance, dominating the entire range of symptoms of nerve functions, recovery of the action currents on muscles, membranes and brain functions, among other things with the disease of cancer's observable disorders in the biological process. However, particular emphasis should be placed on the inclusion of growth processes into the electrophysiological phenomena which are directly influenced by red light and its biphasic action currents.  These connections were proven by the fact that in practical application in advance stage patients in more than 2 years* and several hundreds of cases.   Regeneration of the above-mentioned disease symptoms also in so-called early cases of existing tumors without any other treatment has proven significant. The intense irradiation with the red ruby laser light can without exception have a positive effect without combustion damage as reported by Laser-Foundation in USA. The biological absorption without any combustion damage is guaranteed by the use of triple unsaturated oils. This also ensures good digestibility, even when used as a 250 cc enema daily. I do not mean that all cancer prophylaxis is to be arranged in such a way that 250 cc of oil be given per day rectally along with intensive Laser irradiation! However: In mathematical physics, it is considered to be good to check the limit values of functions and thus to reduce them to determine the value of the statement. With the limit value, the limit situation of cancer patients in late stages, a lot of oil with the frequency of its electrons in the region of red sunlight and intensive use of the red laser light is now proven."

*1977: Now for approx. 10 years

Page 205-206:
"Photons produce dipolarity and oxygen as well as excited hydrogen which requires red light. They charge solar cells. They delivery via their wave field is the prerequisite for the oscillating electron game in breathing. Electrons in the irradiated area project electron spin resonance, quantum-capable. Then under the influence of visible light, swarms of free electrons and photons occur in the dark reaction. Here the paramagnetism is of the living substance. The tumor in death of the cell, experiences diamagnetism.  Seed oils contain all the growth processes and the photosynthesis that these π electrons are considered to be necessary for the the process of life as vital for man. These are π electron systems of the di- and tri-enees, the cis-linolenic acid and the Linolenic acid. Due to their electron structure, they are decisive for the oxygen transport in biological systems, especially in combination with the growth processes. These π electron systems have mastered the chain reactions of the resonance phenomena during absorption, storage and discontinuous transmission of the photons as an element of life. Adhesive electrons draw solar energy with their electromagnetic field in specific frequencies. They act as amplifiers of the light with electric lines in nerve tracts, in membrane functions, in cell division, immune reactions, muscle contractions and the oxidative recovery phase during ferment reactions and in the function of the of the sensory organs. Also electromagnetic processes during mental activity are affected by the nature of these π electron systems."

Page 212: I single out this sentence of her's as it is one of the few passages where she writes that the unsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) can also be electron donors and let me remind you here that all antioxidants are electron donors! Modern science also agrees with this, some times PUFAs can act as antioxidants!  This is all pertinent because antioxidants do not destroy other antioxidants. So why does she say antioxidants are detrimental to the essential fatty acids? Both can work as electron donors!    "Highly unsaturated fatty acids serve as electron donors."

Page 215-216: "Sunlight is considered to be composed of particles consisting of the photons. The photon, massless, always in motion, hurrying with time, therefore eternally living is always accompanied by electrical and magnetic fields which stand vertically on top of each other and are coupled. The photon can never be braked. It is always in motion, even if it is captured by an electron. The electron, although provided with mass is also always in movement can never be located, never in space and time.  The dualism corpuscle/wave that emerged for light is also to be extended to electrons. The character of the electron with electric charge and ground, nevertheless indicates to its origin through photons. Also the electron shows a behavior according to the corpuscles, combined with wave character, always accompanied by the electromagnetic field. The magneto-optical and the electro-optical laws meet according to the valid electron theory also applies fully to the electron. The electron can take up a photon by resonance.  It can send it out again at the appropriate time without any change to its mass. The absorption, storage and emission of photons occurs according to certain fundamentally important laws of physics. According to NIELS BOHR, a body can only change due to absorption or emission of radiation. These rays correspond to the natural oscillation in matter. The fundamentals of electron resonance with the inclusion of the PAULI's rules of prohibition demand the brevity of the time depending on wavelength, depending on the rotation of the spin and from the electron's own magnetic field. The more photons the electron has captured, the bigger the resonance capability for further photons. One electron with many photons in stock jumps in the atom on the rungs of energy ladders to the higher level, further away from the nucleus. Its range of motion is thereby magnified. The electron on the higher rung of the energy conductor can emit photons.  The photon also reflects within the interaction of fields. On this process of resonance-absorption of storage and the stimulated emission is based on the laser process. The corresponding processes found in the living substrate,in particularly high I'm going to die. Photons absorb solar energy in the living substrate in electrons to store in material particle-like and to store at given time as pure reactivate energy.  This is one of the basic characteristics of the life processes. Aspects about photons as particles in the electron field are interesting as all living things shine."

Page 224-225: Here again, she only mentions Linoleic acid, the Omega-6 PUFA. Flax oil's hefty omega-3, Linolenic acid goes unmentioned. "The electron-rich highly unsaturated fats as they are found in the seed oils form via the electrically active linoleic acid with a sulphur containing protein with cysteine which is found abundantly in curd cheese. This fatty acid in its interaction with the sulphur containing protein substances is an important biological component for the functions of the fat metabolism and of all life processes. In 1952, I put it this way: Linoleic acid stands in their synergism - with "Syn" we think of syn-thesis, with "Ergism" energy - i.e. in synergism with protein the linoleic acid the integrating factor for all life processes, for which intact function of the respiratory ferments for absorption and utilization of oxygen, for fertilization processes, growth processes, for structural giving, building and degradation of the cells, and for all disease defense in the field of immunobiology. This electron-rich fatty acid causes by their electron wealth an interaction with protein as an electrical opposite pole results in water solubility of the fats. It controls the electroactivity the membrane functions of all mucous membranes in the heart as the pacemaker of the electrical impulses and in the kidneys as the filter function. It absorbs the acidifying hydrogen with its unsaturated bond.  All glandular functions and secretions are controlled by the surface activity of this electron-rich linoleic acid. Acid-base equilibrium in blood has been talked about a lot as well as about alkaline-rich food. The base, which here is able to prevent the over-acidification of the only way to throttle blood is to use highly unsaturated linoleic acid. Its electron configuration acts against the acidifying sulfur-containing protein connection buffering water solubility, oxygen affinity, the attraction towards oxygen and in relation to hydrogen represent a decisive phenomenon of the electron-rich highly unsaturated fats. On the formation of this hydrogen bridge to protein is based on its involvement in the protein synthesis. For this reason, they have an antisclerotic effect. This is already a comprehensively effective beneficial effect of these fatty acids. Also the physico-chemical electron theory about the nature of the electron compensation showed that the movement of electrons between fat and protein metabolism is a fundamentally important process. During the electron migration, the tendency of the electrons to surface is a decisive force in all life processes. The motor for the electron force is located at the highly unsaturated Fatty acids, rich in easily movable highly active electrons. This dynamic power of fatty acids has an effect on the circulation of the blood, on all fermentation processes including those that are so common in cancer patients who are characterized by severely affected function of the respiratory ferments. It also controls the insulin and hormone production. The electrical impulses of all brain and nerve cells and pathways are dependent on the highly unsaturated fatty acids as electron carriers. The dipolar field which they are exposed to the counterpole of sulfur-containing protein is capable of normal cell division in the dipolar order. All life processes take place in a dipolar order. In the cancer cell this one is disturbed."

Page 226 : Very true in that most all carcinogens are fat soluble! It makes perfect sense that if one is taking the proper unadulterated PUFA, it is less likely that fat will be an initiator for future cancer. "It turns out that many carcinogenic substances such as benzpyrene found in cigarettes can transfer their harmful effect of fat as a railway preparer for cancer. Fats can favor the harmful effect or prevent it."

Page 227: All we hear about is how sun screens are a must and a preventive of cancer when Dr. Budwig knew years ago that the true protection for the skin was proper intake of unrefined PUFAs. "The electrons of the highly unsaturated oils of the seeds are specially designed for the wavelengths of sunlight. The presence of these oils in the living substrate of the human being causes the human being to have the ability to absorb the electrons of the sunlight as an antenna and save it. Cancers can not bear the sun and, accordingly, doctors often advises its avoidance. I give the cancer patients, my oil/protein diet with a high content of electron-rich oils while eliminating the industrial oils classified as electron robbers containing interfering molecules resulting in these cancer patients within two to three days again tolerating the sun."

On page 229:    Here again, she emphasizes the importance of the Omega-6 linoleic acid though this time for the first time, she also finally mentions the Omega-3 Linolenic acid, too, but notice the ratio: three linoleic acid mentions to the one of linolenic acid!   "It is so significant that Linoleic acid as it is present in sunflower oil, for example, is excellent for its double unsaturated bond. Here are the two freely available electrons of the two double bonds of the same wavelength in resonance with each other. In this way they amplify the effective electronic force, the ability to further resonate with protein and electron migration. The frequency and force of the electron cloud is attached to linoleic acid as a vital force, as an essential fatty acid. This is considered vital for humans and animals with this also scientifically stated in biochemistry and medicine as indisputable.  The triple unsaturated bond of the linolenic acid found in linseed oil, unfolds in combination with the doubly unsaturated Linoleic acid also present in linseed oil provides a particularly intensive electronic signal through resonance Energy."

Page 249: "One thing is certain: in the biological molecule of lipoproteins formed from the sulfhydryl group and the highly unsaturated fatty acids, the resonance of the energy which is life-friendly like the light of the sun, increases when the electrons located there are absorbed by further electrons or photons increasing their resonance energy."

Chapter C (Time critical, human or anti-human)

Page 272:
"Budwig also observed that the red blood cells of a cancer patient in contrast to the red blood cells of healthy people do not have a fat coating and that a fat coating is formed when the cancer patient is fed food with containing unsaturated fats."

Page 307:         'It turned out that the highly unsaturated fats are essential to life. They are of decisive importance for the respiration, for the oxygen uptake of humans and for the intact function of the respiratory enzymes. These highly unsaturated fats are a decisive building block for protein synthesis and for structure and Cell degradation. These highly unsaturated electron-rich fats are an important component in all membrane functions in all organ functions. The secretion of mucus in the upper and lower cavities depends on the presence of these electron-rich surface-active fats. Electrons circulate in the outer periphery in every atom in every tissue. Electrons already push to the surface during development of the egg in the womb, along with the development of embryos, and in the function of all mucous membranes. Over-acidification of the stomach is caused by the absence of these electron-rich mucilages as seen in the case of highly  constipated intestines--a consequence of the absence of these surface-active mucilages. Required "scraping" of women are a consequence of the lack of surface-active fatty acids which act as bactericides and which can be eliminated by restoring the humans biologically correct electric field in the flora in the intestines.  Secretions of the liver bile function from the presence of these highly unsaturated fatty acids and are secretion-promoting. Even the deposition of stones in the bile, the kidney or bladder may be scientifically proven to be associated with the lack of these vital nutrients and the fats that dissolve urea.  Cavities, frontal sinuses, nasal sinuses and salivary glands at the ear, throat and mouth are clear consequences of  in the fatty substance changes due to the lack of surface-active highly unsaturated, the secretion-promoting natural oils."

Page 308:  In this passage, we come closest to her defense and reasoning of using flax oil as her therapeutic oil of choice over all others. As I suspected, I appears her favoritism for Flax oil is due to the Flax oil's uncommon property of being high in the Omega-3 Linolenic acid while at the same time having 16% of the Omega-6, linoleic acid which is small, but still, this makes Flax oil unique to most all other seed oils. Most seed oils have very little Omega-3 and much Omega-6! If she had realized how important the Omega-6 Linoleic acid was to health, she would have routinely used a high linoleic seed oil in combination with her beloved flax oil!  "Fat sciences suggest that linseed oil fatty acids have a growth-promoting effects. This has to do with the fact that linseed oil's fatty acids have the largest share of electrons which are easily activated as pure energy. The electrical potential of linseed oil fatty acids is stronger than that of other tested oils. The electro-magnetic field from linseed oil fatty acids has a controlling effect on all growth processes. At the boundary between electrons as a supplier of pure energy and on the other hand as a building block of matter and living substrate, linseed oil fatty acids are an extremely interesting structure for they possess the triple unsaturated fatty acids with the large accumulation of the pi-electrons which are ready at any time to form the bond of matter. They play a fundamental role in all development of the brain and nerve functions. This has been scientifically proven and bio-physically explainable. However, medicine makes little or no use of these findings. This energetic aspect of the electron-rich seed oils for growth, respiration, and energy production from food is today in the light of modern bio-physics, highly interesting and in our present day life situation highly topical."

Page 309: "Today in medicine one can use the electrons in the living substrate by providing humans with electrical energy streams which is biologically and physically wrong. Electrons form different families like people. These are related with each other or are strangers. Only if the relationship, the resonance from electron to electron is good, can we use their energy with each other. This resonance from electron-to-electron is the connection of pure energy to matter and stands for the dynamic character in the living substrate with the photon of the sunlight as a mediator. The photon of sunlight increases the resonance ability in the electron. The electron itself which corresponds to life, originated from resonance of pure photons of sunlight. The electron which has its properties inherited from photons as ancestors remains resonance capable for further photons of sunlight and for electrons which are solar energy assigned quantum-wise."

Page 310:  "All life processes which I mentioned at the beginning are considered to be highly dependent on the vital highly unsaturated fats.  The membranes of organ functions, phlegm secretions, growth,  brain & nerve functions, renewal of cells in the blood, and in the skin (important for cosmetics), tumor development or tumor prevention. Everything depends on the intact function of our photo-elements for storage and utilization of solar energy in the life process. Are these resonant Photo-Elements systems of solar energy slackened, empty of the resonance-capable sun-equipped electrons--then the human can't stand the sun anymore. Then their doctors say that the patient should avoid the sun. The sun has not gone bad, but man has destroyed his resonance system antenna to the wrong wavelength!  It's not that solar radiation should be avoided but it must be integrated into the great order created by solar energy in the the living substrate of man. Light is the dominant factor in the life process."

Page 315: "This magnetic field of the electrons at the membranes draws oxygen in and attracts the photons of the sun. The electrons of the highly unsaturated fats in seed oils attract solar energy particularly strongly. They are made up of the resonance of photons of solar energy. They belong - as physics teaches - to the "family" of electrons from solar energy. This is not the case, for example, with neutrons or rays of light or artificial radio elements."

My Concluding Analysis of Volume 11

To summarize Volume 2, this text seems to give the most concise reason why Dr. Budwig chose Flax oil over the others in her generalized formula though in Volume 1, we saw one case where she prescribed a combination of cold-pressed sunflower oil in addition to flax oil to an impressive cancer cure. She was well aware of the value of the other seed oils as they were included in her patent, but she seemed to not appreciate the uniqueness of the Omega-6 Linoleic acid when compared to the Omega-3 Linolenic acid PUFA. She knew they acted synergistically, but that was about it. She found flax oil to be unique to the other seed oils in having a very high Omega-3 Linolenic content while at the same time having a 16% Omega-6 linoleic acid volume as well. With all of the other common seed oils, she would never have gotten an appreciable Omega-3 Linolenic content at all! Flax oil was as close as she could come to having both types in one single oil. Unfortunately, as modern science later discovered, the Omega-6 Linoleic acid is really a very profoundly needed PUFA for mitochondrial health along with all of the other body functions. I suspect that her impressive therapeutic results with only flax oil is mostly attributable to the very potent effect of the even that meager 16% typical content of Linoleic acid in flax oil could have on cancer and other pathologies!

As far as antioxidants as respirator poisons, being electron thieves to either Linoleic or Linolenic acids, little is said in these volumes. She did mention on page 212, Volume 2 that "Highly unsaturated fatty acids serve as electron donors."  This is true as modern science also backs in the 21st century. PUFAs can act as electron donors and I might add, antioxidants are electron donors as well. Just know, one antioxidant does not destroy another antioxidant!

Lastly, in both volumes, nothing is written of her quark having to be low fat.

Chapter 1       Every vital function a fat syndrome ....................................................11

1)   The chemistry, physical chemistry and biochemistry of fats .............................. 12

page 12:  Note that is exactly why linseed oil may be a fire hazard in the home in that it has the capability to produce heat from rapid oxidation. BY the same token, it is very valuable to the body because of just this trait.
"These fatty acids act as negatively charged electrical poles with a lot of electrons. The oxygen atoms are electron-friendly, "electron-affine".  They feel attracted to the electron-rich opposite pole. This is why linseed oil dries on the canvas of the painter so fast. It is very rich in highly unsaturated fatty acids and when air is supplied, oxygen enters these energy-charged double bonds and compensates for this energy. The oil now also changes its physical properties, constants, viscosity. The formation of the oil film is characterized by this oxidation (oxygen uptake)."

page 21:  "During my examinations of freshly operated cancer tumours,  I found large accumulations of solid fat. I did more detailed investigations of these fats with the sensitive methods of paper chromatography which indicated that the nature of these fats indicates their origin as the high-molecular-weight, industrial fats. In addition, cancer tumours often contain accumulations of arachidonic acid that is the peanut fatty acid. This fatty acid must also be described as foreign to the body, especially if it has been further processed by chemical fat hardening. Accumulations of cholesterol occur in tumours."

page 21:  Note that again, she seems to favor the importance of Linoleic acid over Flax oil's predominant Linolenic acid in most all of her writings:  "The testing of several thousand blood samples taken from clinics and in my medical practice, show that blood lipoids which are not contained in more than one drop of fresh blood led to the realization that the blood of healthy people in contrast to cancer patients'  & diabetics' blood lack these vital highly unsaturated fatty acids. In the blood of these patients, a yellow-green dye, the precursor of the red blood pigment, pointed to anemia being present in cancer patients was not as it was believed, but a secondary accompanying symptom, a a secondary anemia. The yellow-green dye, also called cytochrome-c is obtained by the addition of traces of the vital highly unsaturated fatty acids, linoleic acid, immediately in red blood pigment. In physiological chemistry, this cytochrome- c has been intensively studied. It was called "not autoxydable". (For details see p. 84 and 109). It became clear that the blood formation is dependent on this for respiration. Active fats are so important for the indispensable function of blood cells."

page 21-22:  "The epidermal deeper lipid layers were removed from healthy and sick people and tested via paper chromatographically. It was found in cancer patients, a characteristic absence of the highly unsaturated fatty acids that has a high affinity for oxygen resulting in a marked accumulation of tallowy, hard fats with dry skierotisierter (horny) skin, accordingly, present.  A son of a butcher, who was entrusted to me for consultation had this type of skin which lasted several weeks until the oil/protein diet which contains a lot of linseed oil was prescribed. Lipochemical examinations in blood, mucilages, skin areas and cancerous tumors showed that in this disease, the fat metabolism is cardinally affected. Cancer tends to have sub-healthy volumes of highly unsaturated fats, epithelial lipoids and fat-protein compounds. Physiological accumulations of alien hardened (industrial hydrogenated) "body fats" can be found in the skin of cancer patients and predominantly in cancerous tumors as well as protein hardenings and cornifications."

page 23: I often have wondered what exactly happens when we mix the seed oils with quark or cottage cheese. Here Dr. Budwig writes a whole new  compound is created in a chemical reaction:   "The absence of highly unsaturated fatty acids in the blood has a negative effect on the otherwise existing lipoproteins with the sulfur-containing protein component.   What do these two, so different substances from the protein and the fat area have to do with each other? I did a small experiment on paper with these two substances. I poured the highly unsaturated fatty acids in strong dilution (0.1 mg) on a chemically pure paper and left the protein substance with the active sulfur-containing group cysteine in this paper. It was found that these two substances react with each other which was purely chemical, not foreseeable at first, because it concerned two acids, an amino acid and a fatty acid. But these two substances resulted in a reaction product that was unmistakable and clearly established. A fat-protein compound was newly created as a previously unknown substance. This experiment was immediately recognized in its full scope. There are an enormously large number of metabolic disorders and illnesses that can be caused by a lack of the proper lipoprotein and which will respond favorably to the intake of these protein substances--such as liver disorders that are otherwise difficult to treat, skin affections, eclampsia of the liver, etc. One can say probably, there is hardly an indication with which this sulphur-containing lipoprotein can not be used with good success in recent years although the inscrutable setbacks always exist."

page 29: "Electron abundance characteristic of the polyunsaturated fatty acids gives them a high degree of binding energies. Olefins as found in oleic acid (olive oil) lacks these polyunsaturated fatty acids. These binding energies of the polyunsaturated fatty acids are based on the strong associative forces of the --electron clouds. They develop the proton affinity, the strong influence and accumulation of the proton-rich, positively charged, low-electron, electrophilic molecules with the sulfhydryl group (i.e. Cysteine in protein). Systems with this increased effect on both sides are formed with mutual influence. Here, the polyunsaturated compounds can act as nucleophilic electron donors and as antagonists, synergists and electrophilic proton-donators influence the exchange of charges and forces. The role of proton-donators can be played by oxygen, but above all by hydrogen in the formation of hydrogen bonds."

page 32: Again, Dr. Budwig acknowledges that the polyunsaturated acids can be electron donors which is exactly what all antioxidants are and accordingly, I say to you, one antioxidant cannot destroy another antioxidant: "The physico-chemical nature of the highly unsaturated fatty acids as electron carriers
and electron donor. . ."

page  37: Here we again see her singularly writing that Linoleic acid is the prime PUFA responsible for cellular respiration in the mitochondria, yet she mostly uses flax oil that only has a typical 16% concentration of Linoleic acid in it: "The mitochondria in the plasma of the cells are also the site of fat metabolism.  In recent years, this has become increasingly visible in the field of research, not least because their metabolic function is a key factor in significant oxygen conversion. The respiratory function is largely transferred into these small organ corpuscles in the cytoplasm. The strongly dipolar alignment of these corpuscles in the cytoplasm has already been detected. A few months after I became aware by my investigations into the importance of linoleic acid as ferment in respiratory metabolism,  K. Lang, Mainz, published that he had isolated linoleic acid from the mitochondria. There is no doubt that in these organelles of the cell plasma, a considerable proportion of cellular respiration takes place in the outer cell membrane which as Warburg rightly pointed out is also characterized as the plasma boundary layer. It is a matter that both in the mitochondria and in the plasma boundary layer around the oxygen affine electric field of the lipoproteides from sulfur-containing protein combines the highly unsaturated electron-rich fatty acids. In addition to the important function of biological oxygen uptake, a function of the mitochondria is the orderly fat metabolism which has been ignored so far or was at least underestimated."

page 39:  "The highly unsaturated fats are already very easily autoxydable. Oxidation means:
1. oxygen uptake,
2. hydrogen release,
3. electron release.
The electrostatic situation of the highly unsaturated fatty acids strongly determines their bio-chemical behavior, e.g. to the sulfhydryl group of the protein components. The Sulfhyldry groups which we have identified during chemical analysis and physicochemical as an important partner of the highly saturated fatty acid have already been used for 40 years as "autoxydable" substances in autoxydable systems of "physiological interest" and has been well researched and is well known. Already Warburg had in his investigations of the Atmimgsfermentes, his missing piece of the puzzle to cellular respiration that he repeatedly assumed that in addition to the hydrogen donor, a fatty acid would have to be in the game, but which one?"

page 40:   See how important Budwig feels Linoleic acid is in this passage! No where is Flax oil's major PUFA, Linolenic acid mentioned:  "According to my research on the importance of highly unsaturated fatty acids, linoleic acid is responsible for the electron release and for the association with the sulfhydryl group.  It results that in the lipoproteids with the bridge linoleic acid and sulfhydryl group provides for a system in which the autoxidability of the sulfhydryl group and linoleic acid are mutually supportive. Both poles remain light oxidable, but reversible in their function. The disulfide of the sulfhydryl group can be reduced again as a hydrogen factor. The linoleic acid is passed through the oxygen uptake in several stages, whereby the mutual induction of the poles R-SH and the Diene oscilate. The fatty acid is formed by oxygen deposition OH groups. These are capable as we know from fat chemistry, to form new dienes by cis-trans isomerization and water separation. This process also affects the function of autoxydation through induction of the sulfhydryl group. The fatty acids which are the functional group of the cytochrome Oxydase (respiratory enzyme according to Warburg) must work in hydroxylated or oxidized state as cytochrome reductases. The knowledge about the interaction of the opposite poles in the redox system that both the R-SH groups in the sulfur-containing protein (dehydrogenotransportases) as well as the dienes of the highly unsaturated fatty acids in the Ox form and in the Red form brings a revolution to the science of biological oxidation."

page 41"The respiration of food can receive the impulse from various influences as from the H-donators as acids, fermentation processes, work performance, food intake which disturb the distribution equilibria from cold influences (cold water) or sunlight. This makes it clear how the entire metabolism during this autoxydation process in the redox fat-protein system, the respiration of food, is closely related to the structure of the scaffold substance.   Especially during the "oxidative recovery phase" of the muscle, but not only of the muscle, linoleic acid plays a decisive role here too. Meyerhof already stated this, even though he was aware of the comprehensive meaning and the generalization of his findings. The results of this phosphorylation process which also requires the vitamin B complex would not be possible without linoleic acid."

page 42:  Here is an effect of the PUFAs I was not aware of, nor read in any of her English translated works!   " A very interesting physiological  fact which has gone unnoticed is that the highly unsaturated fatty acids like all capillary active substances, reduce the surface tension of the solvent water.  After all, sulphonated fatty acids are used today as dish-washing detergents! This means that the aqueous phase of the blood or other body fluids flush better. The water retention (edema) in the tissue that is so undesirable in health is really a fatty acid syndrome which is precipitated by the consumption of industrial treated, "hard" fats. Ivar Bang found via experimentation, the disturbing influences of common salt, i.e. damage caused from common salt by lecithin. But it is the functional effect of phosphatides, lecithin, equal to the highly unsaturated fatty acids which has already been determined. The symptoms known as saline damage are primarily referred to as pathological fat syndrome. This is indeed the case. Modern medicine exaggerates the risk of salt in food. One should be more afraid of consumption of the hardened fats. In practice, even in kidney patients with serious edemas, it is more important to have the capillary-active, highly unsaturated fats that are added to the body's fluids rather than resort to the removal of sodium chloride.  Highly unsaturated fats when supplemented to the body's fluids reduces surface tension and other osmotic properties to be able to lend."

page  44: Again, the importance of Linoleic acid (LA):  "Stone formation often associated with kidney dysfunction comes about because the solving principle is missing. Cysteine is predominantly found in stones (the carrier of the sulfhydryl group) which acts as inoperably ballast, if the highly unsaturated fatty acids are missing and unable to dissolve such stones. The saturated fats, the hardened ones with dipole moment zero are missing the adhesion points in stones of the kidney, the gall or in the bladder semolina collecting substances that are prone to forming stones. We have already mentioned that linoleic acid reduces the cholesterol and that in the event of excessive deposition of cholesterol on the vascular walls (arteriosclerosis),  linoleic acid is missing. Therefore lack of highly unsaturated fatty acids in the presence of lipids without dipole moments in the stones also frequently in addition to cysteine cholesterol, the prime cause for stones. Both types of stone formations are caused by harden industrial fats which are undissolvable. They therefore represent a pathological form of the fat syndrome that is very widespread today."

2)  The effects of lipid metabolism on Brain and nerve functions .................................................... 48

page  49: Ah, finally Budwig mentions Linolenic acid (Flax oil's predominant PUFA) as important in brain health which is true, but Linoleic acid is even more vital! A 1992 study, Structural and functional importance of dietary polyunsaturated fatty acids in the nervous system found:  "The effects of polyunsaturated fatty acid deficiency have been extensively studied; prolonged deficiency leads to death in animals. Linoleic acid is now universally recognized to be an essential nutrient. Until recently, however, alpha-linolenic acid was considered non-essential."  Now it is appreciated as more important as in brain health as well! Budwig writes:
"The Nobel Prize winner H. Dam was able to show clearly in animal experiments that deficiency of the vital highly unsaturated fats as well as the supply of industrial hardened fats severely stimulates cerebral disorders with regular brain softening.  It is known that the triple unsaturated fatty acid (linolenic acid) of which is almost exclusively found in linseed oil and in smaller proportions in nuts and other foodstuffs is specially formulated for brain function is indispensable. The fact that the fat metabolism for the substance is of fundamental importance in the brain and nerves is probably also of interest to most lay-people and should be noted by the professionals in detail.  There is hardly an organ that has such intensive respiration dependency, such a high oxygen requirement as does the brain and nerve cells. Oxygen damage has the quickest  effect in neural cellular death! The entire respiration process in the brain and nervous system is highly dependent on the electrostatic situation fostered by the essential fatty acids. The vital highly unsaturated fats which are now considered essential for intact respiration are also characterized by a very high electrical charge. They are able to restore dipolarity in the living substrate to recharge the life battery."

page  50:  "Chronic headaches are often associated with a lack of oxygen caused by poor dietary fat in the brain.  The nerves must have proper dietary fat which ensures an intact course for the entire brain and nerve function without which damage to the contacts of the fine synapses can interfere with polarization and signaling throughout the lipid substrate. The softening of the brain observed in animal experiments is only one of the symptoms."

page 51:  " Cases of epileptic seizures offers clear characteristics for oxygen shortage and unnatural breakdown of brain matter. If  trauma is the cause of this disease, the conditions will be different from those that have developed during an early age of the disease of epilepsy with no apparent cause.  My oil/protein diet tried on 25 epileptics cases showed good results."

3)   Function of sense organs ...............................................................................................................52

page 52:  Here we have a very interesting revelation for me!   I have been for the last few years plagued with vision problems. I seem to have a slight double vision that often would come-and-go in the beginning, but has since become much more permanent. It was getting so bad that when driving, I would shut one eye to avoid the double vision effect that was most irritating when there were oncoming cars or I had a median line in my vision! I also had problems reading the menu on TV screens at night though I didn't really notice double-vision when an actual image was on TV. I have been pressing my own flax seed oil and mixing it in cottage cheese/quark for at least 3 years prior without it seemingly having any effect on my worsening vision.  Then, I decided to add sunflower oil to the mixture at about a 3:1 ratio in favor of sunflower oil over flax oil about 6 weeks ago as I am writing this. Well, within about 3 weeks on this new oil supplementation, my vision was suddenly much improved. I had not remotely expected that to happen!  No more double vision or shutting of one eye! I swear, I did nothing else that I can think of other than adding sunflower oil, an unadulterated high linoleic acid seed oil! I am convinced that this is a pretty good clue how important linoleic acid is to our over all tissue health! I suspect if one is trying to overcome cancer, one should not rely on only flax oil with such a low Linoleic acid content! To back up my health claim, Budwig writes this:
"The sense organs are closely linked to the function of the brain. Most clearly this can be observed in the eye. The retina and visual conduction are called parts of the diencephalon (division of the brain). The functional efficiency of the visual fields depends on brain function and nerve conduction. The anatomical prerequisite for an intact function of vision and associated optical Impressions are very complicated. Here are just a few of the previously underestimated facts which I want to point out: The particularly important mucilaginous substances at the eye naturally require the surface-active fats which are responsible for the build-up of mucilage.  The following facts should be even more plausible: Behind the eyeball in the orbit,  the muscle strands are surrounded by fat that make up the eyeball's orbit and allows rotation and direct line of sight. This fat remains stubbornly preserved for a long time, even with severe emaciation. A diminishing of this fat can be observed especially with cancer patients, so that their eye sinks back strongly. If these patients are put on the oil/protein diet, they report visual acuity to improvement. This can be observed not only in cancer patients, but whenever the consistency of this orbital fat pad has become too hard or the fat mass in the connective tissue disappears.  The normalization of proper essential fatty acids in these patients restored better vision. A very skeptical ophthalmologist once once replied before she knew much of my results: "This is purely optical, physical data that's been altered. The distances cannot be influenced." Yes, these are influenceable, particularly the consistency of the orbital fat behind the eyeball,  but also lens opacity and other symptoms of an eye disease which are associated with the fat metabolism.  Corneal diseases often lacks the softening of a lipoid layer fattening part. The consistency of the fats in the eyelid glands is not insignificant. The function of the eye depends on the proper body fat. The dependence of the visual image of the on interaction of the unsaturated fats with sulfur-containing protein can be proven with its importance already pointed out Tyng-fei-Hwang in China. The eye function is strongly influenced by good or bad fat food.

Concerning the function of hearing, I would like to only briefly suggest which factors are backed by completely tangible evidence of its relationship to fat metabolism. The fat relationship is significant for the elasticity of joints and will be discussed later. The essential fatty acids also plays a role in hearing (hammer joint). An ear/nose/throat specialist asked me how it could be explained that the people of today all have too dry earwax which must often be flushed out as a plug, whereas in the past this was barely necessary? The earwax is no longer supple in today's world. The eardrum loses elasticity. Quite simply: Both must be better oiled with the biologically active highly unsaturated fats which is supplemented by the oil/protein diet resulting in a supple eardrum. It is important for the function of the auditory system that the fatty acids are found in the outer layers. The fat food affects the secretion of earwax. The regaining of the already lost hearing within a few minutes or weeks can be observed.  A domestic worker in a doctor's household was placed on the oil-protein diet which this doctor was currently ingesting, since he himself was being treated for a gastric tumor. The regulation of balance, the appearance of dizziness or quick adjustment after air pressure fluctuations are dependent on the nature of the endolymph in the arc ducts of the inner ear. Abnormal deposits of lime which can be found there at the sensory organs are strongly affected by the fat metabolism (according to P. Desnuelle). The function of all sensory organs including smell and taste is influenced by the elasticity of the tissue and its tensile force, the electrical dipolarity, and depends on the maintenance of the sulphur-containing proteins together with the highly unsaturated fats which are essential for life. Numerous other functions also requires proper fats. The lack of the fundamental important essential fatty acids are today endangering all the sense organs."

4)          Mucus secretion .......................................................................................................................54

page 54:
"As already mentioned, the mucus-secreting cells are found in the epithelium and in the cells of the glandular systems. In exactly these parts of the living organism, you'll find the dreaded tumor formation sites that develops into cancer. The connection between disturbed mucus secretion and tumour formation has not yet been recognized in science. It fell to me with many years of repeated observation that not only was the outer skin of cancer patients dried out, hardened and scleroticized, but the entire mucus secretion in upper and lower cavities were disturbed in the mucous membrane parts of the intestine. This mucus limitng disease precedes the advancement of cancer.  One sees constipation primarily due to an inferior mucus secretion problem of the intestinal tracts.  Drastic laxatives should not be prescribed, but one should supply the substances whose absence leads to the exhaustion of the mucus secretion glands. My experience has already taught me how important flax oil is with the highly unsaturated fats in limiting this mucus exhaustion."

page 56: "The supply of a food that contains the biologically important highly unsaturated fats in a good harmony with protein by adding quark with linseed oil or nuts is the most obvious and fastest way to observe the effect that the secretion of mucus starts within a few hours. This can be observed very quickly in the upper cavities.  The function of the digestive process comes within a few days biologically without any laxatives. A number of illnesses today are associated with the symptom of aggravated mucus secretion, such as premature wear of the joint cartilage and the synovial fluid, the absence of which leads to serious damage to the joints. The clearest reference to the interrelationships as I interpret it can be deduced from the clinical picture of asthma. The asthma patient suffers from an aggravated mucus secretion with reduced oxygen pressure. Both are eliminated extremely quickly and impressively, if the proper fats are supplemented for the preparation of mucus and the protein substances. Now the undissolvable mucus vanishes resulting in the patient comfortably breathing again with proper oxygenation.  Poor oxygen supply is always secondry in asthma patients. The primary cause is due to the lack of the highly unsaturated fatty acids which are responsible for the in the living substrate, i.e. in the oxygen supply of blood and tissue.  Polyunsaturated fatty acids play a decisive role in the mucus preparation throughout the epithelium. Not only mucus secretion in the lungs, bronchial tubes and upper cavities, but all of the cells which require the supply of the vital surface-active substances that are a must for fat functionallity."

5 )   Gastric and intestinal function .....................................................................................................................57

page 57:
"In the medicinal herbal books, one often finds the observation that slime-bearing plants are an effective treatment against tumor formation and cancer. This does not come as a surprise. The disease we call a carcinoma which is simply a total exhaustion of the essential fatty acids. The old tradditional treatment with mucilaginous plants is important with linseed and comfrey being some examples, but intake of these herbs as a medication may not be sufficient, if the patient's essential fatty acids are lacking. The reduced secretion of mucus which is very common today is symtomatic of dry skin, constipation and infertility. Mucus secreatory dysfunction must be taken very seriously when it is observed as a warning sign par excellence. The secretion of mucus in the epithelium is one of the cardinal functions of the living organism health.  The integrity of that function or the impairment of this function is not to be ignored. The preparation of mucus is a cardinal question. for the health and integrity of the entire organism."

6)    Liver, gall bladder, pancreas as a functional unit ..................................................................................59

page 61:
"Fatty degeneration of the liver is caused by the consumption of the industrial hydrogenated, hardened fats which on the one hand due to their physical and chemical behaviour with the lipoproteins by their solution affinity, they are secreted and deposited as fat in the liver.  Fatty degeneration of the liver plays a decisive role in myocardial infarction and rheumatism. Fatty degeneration is the core problem of medicine today and is available in all shades of the most diverse variations and at its root in our time is a striking sign for the comprehensive significance of the Fat Syndrome. For good or evil as an activating, life-giving principle or a killing, suffocating principle, the range of the fat problem is wide. The action of fat covers the entire epithelium of the most important and largest gland, the liver,  into all capillaries of the vascular system and onward to the outer parts of the skin's epithelium. The accumulations of bile rich in sulfur-containing protein are reduced by the poor supply of highly unsaturated oils as a solvent principle. The association of the positively charged sulfur-containing protein compounds with the active highly unsaturated fatty acids is capable of dissolving cholesterol deposited in gallstones. First beyond all else, it is certain that the liver bile patients absolutely need a intake of good fats. Olive oil which was used successfully on gallstones is now said to be useless to a large extent. The highly unsaturated fatty acids are needed here."

page 62-63: "The pancreas is inextricably linked to fat metabolism. Intestinal secretions has an activating effect on the release of the pancreatic juice, whose production also stimulates initial mouth digestion. Pancreatic lipase which is activated by the bile, now plays into the digestion picture with the degrading and transporting of the fats. Overloading of the pancreas that is located directly in the abdominal cavity behind the stomach results in the excretion of undigested fats to the point of exhaustion and formation of the a pancreatic tumor.   Diabetes is also a fat syndrome like the entire pancreatitis complex. Diabetic disorders are a function of the liver-biliary/pancreas upper abdominal complex resulting from the common cause of consumption of hard, industrial treated fats. This affects both the exocrine part of the pancreas, secretion of the pancreatic juice, and the endocrine glands that are known as the Langerhanssche islands.  This hypofunction in diabetics is well known. The oxidation processes in the diabetic are not improved by ongoing insulin injections, but only impaired.  Insulin injections never normalizes the entire food utilization It only affects blood sugar and sugar excretion within bearable limits.. If the dietary fat is reduced in severe diabetics with the addition of the oil-protein diet, the diabetic patient almost always actually recovers. The disorder in the diabetic's sugar metabolism is one of the effects caused by a secretion inhibition in the pancreas from bad dietary fats. The investigation of blood peptides in diabetics confirmed that expectation. The application of these findings in nutrition therapy for diabetics proved that in this way that by normalizing the fat metabolism, lasting help is possible."

7)   The lymphatic and vascular system ........................................................................................................63

page 63-64:
"Lymph ducts and lymph nodes provide a vivid picture for the widely branched, all-encompassing function of the lipid metabolism. Fats are the substances dominating all vital functions. The fine system of the fat transport is the lymphatic tract and lymph glands. Too much swelling is a testiment to the overstressing and dysfunction of the lymphatic system. "

8)    Kidney function ..........................................................................................................................................68

page 68:
"The macroscopic image of the entire kidneys is affected by a thick cushions of fatty tissue. These are thin-bodied oils that are embedded in loose tissue. For a century, it has been known in science that the kidney absolutely has its own "oil can".  Also the "lecithins" which is contained in the kidney is a component of this "oil can". The microscopic picture of the kidney shows that the entire kidney a consists of epithelium. The general epithelial functions also applies to the kidneys. The entire control mechanism of epithelium is particularly pronounced in the glomeruli, the ball-shaped filter stations. The feed and discharge lines of these fine capillaries is almost exclusively made up of lipid membranes twisted into each other in a ball shape.  The glomeruli if feddietary fats from the lymphatics. Kidney function tests commonly involve measuing for protein excretion which sugests kidney tissue damage. Pathological excretion of the water soluble protein compounds occurs when the highly unsaturated fats are missing and replaced by the industrial treated fats in the lipid membrane resulting in the proteins not binding with these adulterated fats. Kidney stones, bladder stones, bladder semolina consist largely of cystine, the biological synergist of the essential highly unsaturated fatty acids. Only the unsaturated fatty acids are able to dissolve such cystine deposits, even if they also contain cholesterol.  The entire hydrogen change is decisively dependent on the composition of the fats found in the entire kidney. The extent to which the biochemistry of unsaturated fats effects the hydrogen change is explained in detail elsewhere in this book. In the kidneys,  this connection between hydrogen metabolism and fat metabolism comes from the following sources. In edema management, a reoganization of the fat metabolism can cause shrikage of water retention in tissue.  The common treatment of withdrawal of sodium chloride does not help edemas!  Bang knew that unsaturated fats are capable of causing saline damage. The potassium and sodium ion is the controlling function in the lipoid membrane as well as controling hydrogen metabolism. For the kidney patient, a supply of the highly unsaturated fats along with the elimination of consumed hardened fats are more important than the removal of sodium chloride.  In biochemical science,  the importance of lecithins as oil cans for the kidney is well known. Torsten Thunberg wrote: "It is an important to remember in the biochemical system where one finds a sulfhydryl group, one  must also have an unsaturated fatty acid group."

page 68: "The large, important area of adrenal hormones is closely related to linoleic acid. oxidation as proven by scientific experiments from the Czfea research laboratory which have unequivocally proven that cortisone of the adrenal gland is influential in the central life function. and prevents extremely pathological damage. But as the experiment has shown, they require linoleic acid, the highly unsaturated, electrically active fatty acid which is discussed again and again here as a function partner. These observations go back to to the different situation in the fat metabolism. They are not to be solved by the presence or absence of the highly unsaturated fatty acids that are essential for renal function."

9)     the skin functions ...............................................................................................................................71

page 71:
"The effects of lipid metabolism on skin function is important in the localization of cancerous tumors. The malignant tumor formation is basically always associated with the inner skin area of the epithelium.  So it is basically not surprising that the treatment of skin diseases is just as resistant to therapy as is carcinoma. The importance of linoleic acid in skin diseases was discovered relatively early, much earlier than the actual significance of this important unsaturated fatty acid for the entire life function. The fact that deficiency of this highly unsaturated fatty acid damages the skin was studied in detail by Burr & Burr as early as 1930. First, one tried to use this fatty acid externally to repair the damaged skin, but one can do better. A certain favourable influence was observed with such an application from this fatty acid. After my investigations of lipoid replenishment in the living human skin,  it was completely clear to me that healthy skin regeneration must take place from the inside, out. The actual function of the fats cannot fully unfold through external application in the skin areas. The constant regeneration of the skin cells takes place basily and runs in the opposite direction from where the constant regeneration of the skin cells takes place. The blood capillaries bring the nutrients up to the basal layer of the outer skin.  The actual skin, the epithelium, is no longer supplied with blood. In its basement membrane, the fat and protein substances which are responsible for the new structure of the skin cells, must now be immediately above this basal layer in the stratum germinativum. If there is no supply of the necessary substances here, then the new formation of the skin cells falters with the older cells being unable to repell the right way."

page 75:
"The cancer problem today is characterized by the realization that cancer is associated with oxygen shortage with diminished respiration. Cancer research culminates in the recogniopn of which substance stimulates this renewed normal respiration in the lungs.  The blood flowing through the lungs passes through the fine capillaries and through the mucin-layer coming in contact with the oxygen in the air. Here, the bloodstream receives the charge necessary for the maintenance of the entire respiratory process in the blood and tissue which is essential for an intact heart function. In our own investigations, it could be established that the mucin-substances are dependent on the presence of highly unsaturated fatty acids.   It is crucial in the healthy functioning lung which requires proper oxygen uptake, secretion of mucus and protection against infection that the presence of the correct fatty acids be present."

11)   THe Effects of Fat Metabolism on  Blood .....................................................................................76

page 76: A 1999 study confirmed that RBC's outer membrane is affected by fatty acids: "This study observed that the osmotic fragility of erythrocytes is reduced rather than increased by feeding an oxidized oil. A similar effect was recently observed in rats fed a moderately oxidized fat. This effect might be due to an altered structure of the erythrocyte membrane. A study of Hayam etal.which demonstrated a reduced fluidity of erythrocyte membranes in rats fed oxidized oils suggested the incorporation of lipid peroxidation products into erythrocyte membranes. Lipid peroxidation products, in particular malondialdehyde, can react with free amino groups of proteins and lipids to form cross-linked products between various membrane components, thereby leading to increased membrane rigidity."    Budwig wrote:
"Microscopic examinations of the red blood cells' outer membrane often show a different texture within patients suffering from poor oxygen supply.  Elasticity is often found to be diminished in these deficient blood cells resulting in a lowered absorbsion of the oxygen. It is common for modern medicine to stimulate increased oxygen uptake  through ventilation of concentrated oxygen, medicated aerosols while holistic practioners use UV light blood irradiation, injections of hydrogen peroxide or other forms of oxidative therapy.  All of these methods that  attempt to force the blood to better achieve oxygen uptake are ultimately doomed to failure. The excellent physicist and physician of Helmholtz, the discoverer of ozone, studied the question of hypoxia thoroughly in animal experiments around 1900.  Ironically, he found that increasing oxygen uptake with the methods just discussed often resulted in animals with an even poorer oxygen shortage.  In hypoxic  animals that were forced  with these methods designed too increase oxygen supply often showed an accelerated death! These experimentally well-founded works are important for our time. You should find Beachtimg among the countless efforts on negative ways to forcefully administer oxygen. This oxygen dysfunction can especially be seen in cancer patients.   Renowned metabolic physiologists of the last century recognized that only one way seems promising: It is necessary to recognize the substance that is an oxygen acceptor, an oxygen carrier, and an oxygen mediator which plays the decisive role in cellular respiration.  Linseed oil's fatty acids very easily removes oxygen from the air with the same effect in the blood's biological substrate and in mucous membrane parts, especially linoleic and linolenic acids as oxygen attracting substrates. They encase the red blood cells which are known as the oxygen carriers. In all vegetable and animal systems in which respiratory processes take place, these fatty acids are also found. Lack of these highly unsaturated fatty acids so vital in the entire respiration and fat burning process will come to a standstill when these highly unsaturated fats are absent. The progress of patients suffering oxygen deprivation from cancer requires that these crude highly unsaturated fatty acids acting as oxygen carriers, as oxygen mediators be present."

page 79: "Fat metabolism not only plays a role in red blood cells, but the white blood cells as well. There are serious illnesses in which the number of white blood cells can be strongly increased or also strongly decreased. The pathological accumulation of these white blood cells, the leucocytes, are called leukemia. It has been observed that these multipled leucocytes are classified according to "fat-rich meal". They are observed on the surface of cancerous tumors highly enriched. Both appearances are to be interpreted only in such a way that this auxiliary group for fat reduction and fat transport for the more difficult fat metabolism is used in an elevated position. In the same way, this is also the case with infections. In advanced stages of cancer, one may observe a decrease in the number of leucocytes far below the norm. The leucocyte production sites no longer keep up. Both manifestations are effects of fat metabolism. Foreign adulterated fats lead to the accumulation inf the leucocytes and finally to the collapse of leucocyte production. Leukaemia is primarily a fat syndrome as well."

page 80:  "Plasma is the basic substance of the blood.  Plasma is a dipolar oriented living mass. Blood plasma is also like protoplasm of the cells by its high tendency for autoxydability, characterized by spontaneous oxygen uptake Plasma is characterized by its content of cysteine, the sulfur-containing protein and the second oxygen acceptor capable of forming peroxides.  Cytochrome oxidase is an oxygen acceptor, the biologically important coponent of protein which in the plasma has dipolarity, maintains the resilience, the vital function, the respiration that is the carrier of the oxygen-friendly fatty acid found in linseed oil."

page 82:  "On closer inspection of this microscopic image shows the blood cells of cancer patients with line-shaped structures which look like pins attached to the red blood cells (see Fig. b, Table III). Photographing these worm-like formations can be very difficult. These are living beings that are when observed by using a two-phase contrast microscope can be recognized exactly as such. They have their own movement and one can observe exactly how they sniff at approaching elements.  I have described these beings for the first time with a 1953 publication and so far only in the blood of cancer patients, but not in diabetes patients whose program is very similar to that of cancer patients. I do not consider these living creatures as pathogens of cancer, but as as living beings which can develop only in a pathological environment of the blood in a cancer state. Also whole clusters of these living beings that are similar to small Maggot worms are observed in fresh blood cancer patients (see Fig. b, Table IV)."

13)    Muscle activity (incl. rheumatism) ....................................................................................85

page 85:
"The fat and protein compounds were detected particularly early for muscle activity and above all for muscle contraction and its recovery phase.  The interplay of fat are of elementary importance. In a detailed study on the frog muscle, Meyerhof recognized as early as 1923 that the muscle contraction is decisively dependent on the presence of both substances of cysteine in the sulfur-containing protein compounds and especially in the Linseed oil fatty acids. He recognized that the necessary oxygen supply needed by the muscle depends on the presence of these two substances. He described how important these unsaturated fats are for the "oxidative recovery phase" in the muscle. From these investigations, we can conclude that the decisive role played by the presence of these fat-protein-rich compounds is vital for proper oxygen supply to the muscle and their recovery phase. Naturally, these conditions are also valid for the heart muscle."
